6 IN STALLATION BEFORE Y OU BEGIN TH E INST ALLATION Before you install your stereo, read all the instructions in this ow ner’s manu- al. You should be abl e to answe r all of these quest ions ab out your vehicle’ s electrical and sound system s.
7 Note: Save t he shipping screw in case you ev er want t o mail o r s hip the stereo. You can s ecure it to the back of the stereo with a piece of tape. MAK ING THE CONNECTIO NS The supplied harness with the 14-pin connector include s all the lead wires you nee d to connect the stereo to ground, po wer, some optional compo- nents, and speakers.
8 Note: Th e wires in the wiri ng harness have the follow ing colors an d labels. Usin g an Ad apte r H arness If you are replacing an ex isting st ereo, or if your vehicle has been factory- wired for autosound c ompo nents, you might be able to use an adapter h ar- ness to conn ect the power and speak - ers.
9 3. Connect the red power wi re (with in-line fuse holder) to a point in your ve h icle ’s fuse block tha t h as power only when y ou turn the vehicle’s key to ei t her the acces- sory (ACC) or ST ART position.
10 1. Connect the gray wire to the r i ght front sp eaker ’s posi tive termin al. This terminal is usually m arked with a plus (+) sign or red m ark . 2. Connect the gray/black wire to t he right front speaker ’ s negative ter- minal. This te rminal might be marked with a minus ( – ) s ign or i t might not be marked at all.
11 1. Connect the gray wi re t o the right speaker ’s positive t erminal. Thi s term ina l is u sua lly ma rked w ith a plus (+) sign or red mark. 2. Connect the violet wire to t h e right speaker ’s negative terminal . This terminal might be marked with a minus ( –) si gn or it mi ght not be marked at a ll.
12 MOUNTING THE ST EREO Be sure you v erify that the stereo is connected p roperly (see “Testing the Connections ” on Page 11). Then fol- low these steps to m ount the stereo. 1. Make sure the ignit ion is turned off , then disconn ec t the cabl e from your vehi cle’ s negat ive ( – ) ba ttery ter m in a l.

14 REMOVING T H E STEREO FRO M TH E D AS H If you eve r want to remo ve the stereo from the dash, follow these steps. 1. Disc onnect the cabl e from your vehicle’s negative ( – ) battery ter- minal.
15 USING THE CONTROL P ANEL The stereo ’s control panel must b e in place for the s t ereo to operate. When you remove it, the display turns off and the stereo c annot be used. T his is a simple but effect ive security me a- sure. Any stored stations r e main in mem ory when the control panel is removed.
16 BASIC O P ERATION Unless otherwise not e d, all i llustra- tions in t his man ual show t he Cat. No. 12-2155 s tereo. T URNING T HE STEREO ON A ND OFF To tu rn on the stereo, press ON/ OF F . The buttons and display light . To turn off the stereo, press ON/ OF F again.
17 ADJUSTING TH E SOUND When yo u listen to your ste r e o, adjust these controls to suit your listening preferences. AUDIO CONTROL SEL + / – — Re peat- edly press or hold down to increa se or decrease the volum e. VOL an d a vol- ume l evel number ap pear.

A djust the vol ume, bass, treb le, balance and fader using the infor- mation in “ Adjust ing the Soun d” on Page 17.
19 RADIO OPERATION PLAYING THE RADIO 1. P ress ON/OFF to turn on the s te- reo. Th e radi o au tomat ically tun es to the last station and band sele cted. 2. P ress BND to sele ct the desired band. AM appears whe n the AM band is selected. FM I or FM II appears when a n FM band is sele cted.
20 Stor ing St ation s 1. Repeat edly press BND to se lect the desired memory group ( AM , FMI , or FMII ). 2. Tune to the station you want to store. 3. Hold down the d esired mem ory channel but to n until P- , th e m em - ory channe l number , and the fre- quency flash o nce on the d isplay .
21 Note: Do no t hold down the m emory channel but ton. This stores the cur- rently tuned station into that location. To select a station you aut omaticall y stored in automatic travel program- ming memory, follow these steps: 1. Repeat edly p ress BND to sele ct the desire d ban d ( AM , FMI , or FMII ).
22 CD PLAYE R OP ERATION Cautio ns: • P lay on ly CD s th at have this mark on the m : • The CD player has a wide dynamic range. As a res ult, if you tu rn your ste reo’s volume up t oo high during s o f t (low v olum e) sec- tions of a program, your speakers might be dam aged when a su d- den loud pass age oc curs.
23 Notes: • If y ou eject a CD while i t is playing and do not remove it from the CD player , the stereo automatically draws the CD back in and starts playing ag ain after about 5 s ec- onds. • If y ou eject a CD then remove it from the CD pl ayer , the stereo dis- plays no cd (or the current time if yo u pr es s CLOCK ).
24 REPEAT PLAY You can set the stereo to repea t a si n- gle track on t he loaded CD. To repeat a track, press RPT/2 during play. RPT a ppears d uring repeat play. When the track ends, it automaticall y repeats. To stop repeating the track and re- sume norma l play, press RPT/2.
25 T ROUBLESHOOTING If your stereo’ s CD player is not working as it should, it displays an error indicator . If it i s a num bered error , it ej ects the CD. T ry these suggestions. If the st ereo st ill does no t o perate properly , the c onn ecting pins in the r eces s or on the back of the control panel m ight be dirty.
26 RESETTI NG T HE STEREO If your st ereo locks up or does not work properly, remove the front panel and use a straight ened paper clip to press the reset button on the bottom left side of the inside panel for about 1 second.

28 CD CARE TIPS Even though a CD is very d urable, you should handle it with c are. We rec om- mend the following precautions. • Keep the CD in its protec tive case or sleeve when you a re not pl ay- ing it. • Handle a CD by its edges to avoid fingerprints wh ich can prevent the CD player ’s laser beam from accurately reading the CD.
29 3. If t he fuse is blow n, replace it. U se only the suppli ed 1 1 / 4 -inch fuse or a replacement f use with the proper rating (such as Cat. No. 270-1005).
