5 PREPARA TION Note: Com plete all other conn ections before connecting the system to AC power and turning it on. CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS 1. Press the red s p eaker terminal tab labeled SPEAKER R on the back of th e system , put the stripped end of the ri ght sp eaker ’s striped w ire into t he t erminal, then release th e tab.
6 Warning: To prevent electric shock, the power cord plug ’s blades are po- larized and fit a pol ari zed AC outlet only one way. If you have diff iculty in- serting the plug , do not force it. Tu rn it over an d reinsert it. USING HEADPHONES You can use h eadphon es (not sup- plied) to listen in privacy.

8 TUNER OPER ATION 1. Slid e FUNCTION to TUNER . Note: Wh en y ou s el ect TUNER , the s y st em au tom a t ic al ly tun e s to the station that was pla ying when the system was turned off or when it was last set to TU N E R . 2. Set BAND to AM or FM to tune to AM or FM radio s tations.
9 CD PLAYE R OP ERATION LOADING A CD 1. Slide FUNCTION to CD . 2. Lift t h e CD compartment cover . Note: The CD carousel has three trays, each l abeled with num bers, but only two trays are exposed when you ope n the CD compart- me nt. 3. Place a CD in either (or bot h) of the expo sed t rays, label side up.
10 • During playback, if the changer is subjected to a sudd en shock or jolt, the speed of rotation might change , o r some noise might be produced. This is not a ma lfu nc tion . 2. Adjust th e volume a nd set E-BASS and STEREO WIDE for the des ired sound.
11 AUDIBLE SEARCH Hold down SEARCH or SEARCH to search forward or back- ward during play. The CD plays rapid- ly and you hear the m usic at a high speed and low volume. RANDOM PL AY This feature random ly selects and plays t racks from all l oaded CDs.
12 REPEAT PLAY You can repe at a s ingle track on a s e- lected CD, all tr acks on a selected CD, all tracks on all l oaded CDs, or a programme d sequ ence (see “ Pro- grammed Play” on Pag e 12). To repeat a single t rack , press RE- PEA T o nce whi le the desired track is playing.

14 • Do not store CDs in hig h- temperature, hi gh-humidity l oca- tions. The CDs might warp. • Keep CDs d ry . A wat er drop can act as a lens a nd affect the l aser beam’s focus. • Always ha ndle a C D by the edg es to avoid f i ngerprints and always keep it in its protect ive case or sleeve when not in use.
15 CASSETTE DECK OPERATION The system has o ne cas set te deck for normal cassette tape playback and re- cording. The deck has a full-release auto-s top system t o protect tapes and prevent pinch roller damage. Wh en a tape reaches the end of a side, th e tape mechanism automatical ly stops and releases the tape.

20 CLEANING THE T APE HANDLING PARTS Dirt, dust or particles of th e tape’s coating can accu mulate on t he tape heads a nd other parts that the tape touches. This can greatly reduce the performance of the cassette player. Use the foll owing cleanin g procedu re after every 20 hours of tape player op- eration.
