2 FEA TURES Your RadioShack Syst em 1250 Caller ID Telephone c ombi nes a teleph one and a Caller I D unit in one system. It shows the caller’s t elephone num ber (and name , if available in your area) and the current d at e and time, as provided by your local phone com pany to Caller ID service subscribers.
3 Messa ge Waiting — lets you know t hat you have received a voice mail message (if you subscribe to a mess age waiting service from your local telephon e com- pany ). Clock — shows the dat e and time as provided to Caller ID service subscribers by your local phone com pany.

Howeve r , each device that you connect to the tele- phone line draws power from the line. We refer to this powe r draw as the phone’s ringer equivalence number , or REN.

6 PREPARA T ION INSTALLING A BACKU P BATTERY You can install an optional 9V back up battery so if the AC power fails or you unplug th e phone ( appears), th e Sys- tem 1 25 0 will s av e the me mory num bers and Caller ID records . We recomm end you use an al kaline ba ttery, such as Ra- dioShack Cat.
7 MOUNTING THE PHONE You can pla ce the phone on a desk or table , mount it o n a standard wall plate, or mount it directly on a wal l. Sele ct a l ocation that i s: • Nea r an AC o utlet • Nea r a modular phone line jack • O ut of the way of normal activities Notes: • Y our telephone c onnects direct ly to a modul ar ph one line jack.
8 4. Route the ad apter ’s cord th rough the strain relief slot on t he back of the ph one. 5. Insert the bracket’s two sm all tabs into the matching slots near the top of the phone and snap the bracket into p lace. 6. Plug the ot her end of the mod ular cord into a modular phone line jack.
9 3. Plug the supplied long modular cord (or the short cord for a wa ll plate) in- to the pho ne jack on the bac k of the phone. 4. Insert the supplied AC adapt er’s barrel plug into the DC 9V jack. 5. If you are mount ing the phone on a wall plate, route the adapter cord as shown .
10 CONNECTING THE HANDSET Plug one e nd of the supp lied coi led cord into the modular jac k on the lef t s i de of the phone and the other end in to the modular jack on the handset .
11 SETTI NG THE DISPLAY LANGU AGE The S ys tem 1 250 i s preset to show c all- er ID messages i n Eng lish, but you can chan ge that. Follow these steps to chan ge the language to Fre nch or Span- ish. Note: If you do not finish a step wit hin 15 s econds, t he phone exits f rom s etup.
12 T ELEPHONE OPER ATION You make and ans wer calls with your System 1250 as y ou would with any oth- er phone. You see t he numbe r as you dial, then (af ter 15 seconds) the elaps ed tim e for this cal l. SETTING T HE HANDSET’ S VO L U M E You can select any of three volume set- tings by repeatedly p ressing VOLUM E s or t during a c all.
13 USIN G HOLD To put a caller on hold, press HOLD . Th e HOLD indicator lights. T o r es um e the ca l l, pr es s HOLD again or pick up an extension phon e on the s ame line. Notes : • Cal ler ID i nformation does not ap- pear f or an incom ing call whi le a c all is on hold.
14 MEMORY DIALI NG You can store up to 20 num bers in memory an d dial any stored num ber by pressing one or two keys. Each st ored numb er can be up t o 24 digits long.
15 4. T o keep a record of each stored numbe r , use a flat-blade screwdriver to lift the pla stic cover from the tele- phone num ber index card. Write t he name on the index card. For easy reference, you can use the s haded areas for lower memory numbers and the blan k areas for upper mem - ory numbers .
16 USING A HEADSET You can make or answer calls with hands-free conv enience us ing an op- tional headset with a 3 / 32 -inch (2.5 mm) plug. Contact your local RadioShack store f o r a suitable headset. To connect th e headset, insert the head- set’s plug into the jack o n the right side of the phone.
17 CALLER ID OPERATION If you subscribe to Caller ID service from your phon e compan y, t he phone comp a- ny send s information a bout the call, as well as t he time a nd date, bet ween the first and second rings of every call you receiv e. The System 12 50 displ ays t his informat ion and updates the phone’s built-in clock.

21 T ROUBLESHOOTI NG W e do not expect you t o have any problems with your t elephone , but i f you do, the following sugges tions mi ght help. If y ou still have prob lems, di sconnect the phone . If other pho nes on the s ame li ne work prope r ly, the fault is in this phone or its installation.
