1 Introduction Thank you f or purchasing t he ICC MDB-100 Modbus RTU / ASCII Comm unicat ions Interf ace f or the Toshiba VF-S7 Ser ies Micro Adjustable Speed Dr ive. Before using the MDB-100 interf ace, please familiar ize yourself with the product and be sure t o thoroug hly read the inst ructions and precaut ions cont ained in t his manual.

4 1. Interf ace P ac k ag e Diag r am Note that t he above diag r am shows the MDB-100 with its cover removed. However, it is only necessary to remove the cover in or der t o initially config ure the MDB-100. Once conf ig ured, the cover should be r einst alled t o pr event damage and dust accumulation.
5 2. F ea tur e Summary The MDB-100 interf ace provides a wide array of network data access and dr ive control f eatures. Com bined with the f lexible data access methods and universal acceptance of t he Modbus network, t his allows powerful net worked control and monitoring system s t o be desig ned.

7 3. Installing T he MDB-100 The MDB-100 connects to each drive via the drive’s communication por t , located on the right -hand side of t he drive enclosure under a small snap-on cover.

Modicon Pr og ra mming 9.1 Supported Modbus Commands The MDB-100 interf ace supports 5 Modbus commands: comm and 1 ( 0x01: read coil status), com m and 3 ( 0x03: read holding reg isters), com m and 5 ( 0x05: f orce sing le coil), comm and 6 ( 0x06: pr eset sing le register ) and command 16 (0x10: pr eset multiple reg isters).
16 data will be the data obtained f rom reg isters 0xFE03, 0xFE04, 0xFE06, and 0xFD00 (in that order ) . Note that t he set t ings of t he pr og rammable address r egisters (0x6000 ∼ 0x601F) are stored in the MDB-100’s nonvolatile EEPROM. Ther ef ore, do not write t o any of these reg ister s m ore than 100,000 t imes.
17 For setting 2 (coast stop) , the drive will coast stop (f r ee run) if it was running. T his action clears bit #10 in the select ed drive’s communication comm and bit st r uct ure (reg ister 0x7A00 / 0xFA00 - also the same data as write-only coil #10 / #26) and set s bit #11 (same as coil #11 / #27).
18 The response delay time r value is read only upon MDB-100 initialization, req uiring the unit to be r eset if t he value is changed f or t he new value to tak e ef f ect . This setting is also non- volatile ( writt en t o t he MDB-100’s EEPROM). T her ef ore, do not write to this reg ister more t han 100, 000 times.
19 10. Modbus Pr ogr amming Interface 10.1 Overview Three t ypes of Modbus data may be accessed via the MDB-100. These are holding register s ( 4x reference) , r ead-only coils (0x reference) and write- only coils (0x ref er ence) .
