Getting to Know the HD8/HD16 ZOOM HD8/HD16 11 Y ou can arrange rhythm patterns in the desired order of playback, and program chords and tempo to create the rh ythm accompaniment for an entire song. (This is called a “rh ythm song”.) Up to 10 rhythm songs can be created, among which one is selected for editing/playback.

ZOOM HD8/HD16 21 Listening to a Demo Song When shipped from the factory , the internal hard disk of the HD8/HD16 contains a demo song. T o listen to it, proceed as follo ws. On the HD8/HD16, song data are managed in units called “projects”. A project encompasses recorded audio data, rhythm and effect settings, and other information.
ZOOM HD8/HD16 22 Let’ s Recor d This section demonstrates the basic recording procedure of the HD8/HD16. As an example, it e xplains ho w to record a guitar connected to INPUT jack 1 on track 1. 1. Press the [NEW PROJECT] key in the contr ol section and then press the [ENTER] key .
ZOOM HD8/HD16 23 Quick T our Now let’ s use your HD8/HD16 to do some serious recording. Connect an instrument or microphone and follo w the instructions belo w to get a feel for what the unit can do. On the HD8/HD16, song data are managed in units called “projects”.
Quick Tour ZOOM HD8/HD16 24 HINT • When selecting a differ ent project or cr eating a new project, the project you wer e working on up to that point is automatically saved. • When performing the shutdown procedur e for the HD8/HD16 ( → p.20), the last project is automatically saved.
Quick Tour ZOOM HD8/HD16 25 5. To change the tempo, press the [TEMPO] key in the rhythm section to bring up the tempo indication on the display , and then tur n the dial to change the value. The tempo v alue can be set in 0.1 BPM steps. When the setting is complete, press the [EXIT] k ey to return to the pre vious screen.

ZOOM HD8/HD16 36 Refer ence [Recor der] This chapter explains the functions and operation steps of the recorder section. Each audio track and the master track of the recorder contains ten virtual tracks, called “V -takes”. For each track, you can select one such take, which will be used for recording and playback.

The action of switching a currently-playing track to record mode is called “punch-in”, and the action of switching back from recording to playback is called “punch-out”.

ZOOM HD8/HD16 87 Refer ence [Rhythm] This section explains the functions and operation of the b uilt-in rhythm section of the HD8/HD16. The rhythm section of the HD8/HD16 uses internal drum sounds and bass sounds to generate rhythm accompaniment.
Reference [Rhythm] ZOOM HD8/HD16 88 Multiple rhythm patterns arranged in a desired order of playback are collecti vely called a “rh ythm song”. Besides the rhythm pattern data, a rhythm song comprises information about v arious aspects such as chord, tempo, and time signature to create the accompaniment for an entire song.

Reference [Rhythm] ZOOM HD8/HD16 91 When you hit a pad while pressing the [REPEA T/STEP] key , the pad plays repeatedly at the specified interv al (roll play). For e xample, you can repeat a kick drum at quarter note interv als, or play a hihat in sixteenth note units.

When you change the ke y , the notes assigned to all other pads will also shift accordingly . The range for specifying the ke y is C1 to B4 which corresponds to more than four octa ves.
