GUIDE TO INSTALLATION The following can be used as a checklist to verify all of the steps necessar y for complete installation of the DS1100 scan ner. 1) Read all information i n the section "Saf et y Precautions” at the beginning of this manual.
GENERAL FEATURES 1 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The DS1100 scanner with decoder offers the b est cost-effective solution for demanding industrial appl ications.
DS1100 1 The laser beam output window is on the side of the scanner in DS1 100-XXX0 models and on the upper part of the scanner in DS1100-XXX1 models, (Figure A, 1).

DS1100 2 2 INSTALLATION 2.1 PACKAGE CONTENTS Verify that the DS1100 reader and all th e parts suppl ied with the equipment ar e present and intact when opening the pa ckag ing; the list of parts includes: DS1100 reader with cable Quick Reference Guide WinHost CD-ROM Barcode test chart (PCS = 0.
INSTALLATION 2 2.2 MECHANICAL INSTALLATION DS1100 can be installed to operate in an y position. There are three screw holes (M3 x 5) on the b ody of the reader for m ounting. The diagram b elow gives all t he information required for installati on; refer to pars.
DS1100 2 2.2.1 Mounting DS1100 Using the DS1100 mounting bracket you can obtain the m ost suitable position for the reader as shown in the figure below: Figure 3 - Positionin g with Mounting Bracket 6.
INSTALLATION 2 2.2.2 Reading Position In DS1100-XXX1 models the laser beam is emitted from the output window with a 12° (± 2) skew angle. This allows installation with minimum overall dimensions.
DS1100 2 2.3 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS The DS1100 cabl e is equipped with a 25-pin female D-s ub connector for connectio n with the power supply and input/output signal s: CA UTION Do not connect GND and SGND to d ifferent (external) ground references.
INSTALLATION 2 2.3.1 Power Supply The following pins of the DS1100 conn ector are used: 13/9 25 VS GND 1 CHASSIS USER IN TERFA CE GND V+ (5 Vdc ) DS1100 Figure 6 - Power Suppl y Connections The power must be 5 Vdc only.
DS1100 2 For this interface type, the M ultidrop Address must als o be set via serial channel by the WinHost utility or by ESC sequences. Figure 8 shows an example of a multidrop configuration between a Multiple xer and DS1100 scanners. CA UTION This is an example of multidrop wiring.
INSTALLATION 2 2.3.3 Auxiliary Interface - RS232 The auxiliary serial interface is used exclusivel y for RS232 point-to-point connections. It is also used for configuring th e DS1100. The parameters relative to th e auxiliary interface (baud rate, data bits, etc.
DS1100 2 2.3.4 Inputs The inputs available on th e connector are indicated bel ow: Pin Name Function 18 IN1 - input 1 - 19 EXT TRIG- external trigger - 12, 22 GND I/O reference The EXT T RIG input is used t o connect the ext e rnal trigger which tells the scanner to scan for a code.
INSTALLATION 2 The general purpose i nput IN1, in the Standard Application Program, can be used to store the code verifier (see “Store Verifier Hw” in t he WinHost Help On Line).
DS1100 2 By default, OUT1 is associat ed with the No Re ad event, which activates when the code signaled b y the external trigger is not decode d, and OUT2 is associated with the Right event, which activates when the code is correctl y decoded. USER IN TERFA CE Vext 50 Vdc m ax.
INSTALLATION 2 2.4 USER INTERFACE The following t able contains the pinout for standar d RS232 PC Host int erface. For other user interface types, please refer to their o wn manual.
DS1100 2 2.5 POSITIONING The scanner must be positione d so that the laser beam is align ed to completely intersect the codes passing in front of it. This positioning must also be within its reading distance (see par.

GLOSSARY Ape rt ur e Term used on the required CDRH warning labels to describe the laser exit windo w. Barcode A pattern of variable-width bars and s paces which represents numeric or alphanumeric data in machine-readable fo rm.
EEPROM Electrically Erasable Progra mmable Read-Only Memory. An on-board non-volatile memory chip. Full Duplex Simultaneous, two-way, indep endent transmission in both directions. Half Duplex Transmission in either directi on, but not sim ultaneously.
Protocol A formal set of conventions governing t he formatting and relative timing of message exchange bet ween two communicating systems. Raster The process of projecting the laser beam at varied ang les spaced evenly from each other. Typically, the mirrored rotor surfaces are angled to create multi ple scan lines instead of a single beam.
Tilt Rotation around the Z axis. Used to describe the positi on of the barcode with respect to the laser scan line. See pars. 2.2.1 and 2.5. Trigger Signal A signal, typically prov ided by a photoele ctric sensor or proximity switch, which informs the scanner of the presence of an obj ect within its reading zone.
